"It is a beautiful place- full of beautiful girls. I really hope to return to Ghana sometime in the near future."

I had the most unique and fantastic experience at the girls school in Kpandai. I found the relationships between the girls so heartwarming. All the older girls look out for the younger ones, they're like a big group of sisters.

I was overwhelmed by the genorosity and kindness I was shown from all the staff and girls at the school. From the first day I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms. I have so many amazing memories from my time at Let Us Shine. Whether reading with them or helping them to tell the time, they always showed such enthusiasm and willingness to learn. I taught the girls art, maths and science. I was there to help with reading and writing also.

At intervals and after school I spent time teaching the girls how to play cards and some of the games I played as a child.

At the weekend, I would go to the well and try to help the girls get water. Then we'd spent the afternoon playing musical statues or other games.

While I was there, the girls had a football match against another school, lots of people from the town came to watch. There was a great atmosphere, with all the girls competing to have the loudest singing while supporting their team. On Sundays I really enjoyed wearing my tradional African dress and going to the local church.

Even though I couldn't understand the language, it didn't matter, it was just  great to be involved.

During my stay I also got to visit the local medical centre and see the villages that some of the girls come from. It was such an eye-opening experience, but very worthwhile.

I loved getting to know all the girls as they have such different and wonderful personalities. Their happiness is so infectious.

I'd like to think I helped with their education, but I also learnt so much from the girls. They taught me all of their local dances and I loved singing along with their favourite songs- which the girls found very funny. I spent one of my last nights in Kpandai singing and dancing to music, which the girls made themselves. It was a brilliant way to end my time at the school.
