Volunteers Update
In June the school was visited for 5 weeks by Elizabeth McConnell, a teacher at Mosshead Primary School in Bearsden, and Glasgow University Student Hannah Currie, making her second visit this year to the school. Elizabeth and Hannah built up strong relationships with the girls and all our staff, and are sorely missed. Elizabeth taught during and after school hours plus working at the weekend on teacher training and developing the timetable. Hannah helped in all areas and the pupils were delighted that she continued with her art lessons. She tirelessly helped with homework, taught the girls songs and generally got involved in all that was happening.
A few weeks later they were joined by Dr. Mary Higgins,a retired GP from Stirling. Mary brought a lot of medical teaching material and books and carried out lessons on Hygiene malaria prevention, dental hygiene and basic first aid. She also spent some time visiting the Kpandai Clinic which we use when medical problems arise. We were also joined for a few days by Alan McGinlay, retired Headmaster of Mearns Castle High School,and his daughter Laura who also helped with teaching.If anyone else is interested in visiting our projects, please contact us on volunteer@letusshine.org
