P3 Pupil Eye
Operation Success
This June during routine eye tests for our pupils we discovered that primary 3 pupil Naomi Nsenyani has no vision in her right eye. Our medical advisors discussed things with Naomi, who told us that when attending a very basic school in her village, where they sat outdoors, Naomi was caned and the cane swung up and hit her in the eye causing a blood clot and blindness. On examination, her loss of vision was actually caused by a cataract forming over the eye, so we decided to take her to Accra to let an expert tell us if her sight could be restored. This month a wonderful team at Korle Bu teaching hospital in Accra removed the cataract, and Naomi has regained the vision in her eye. Naomi was overjoyed to be given the chance to see properly again, and is being cared for in Accra by our General Manager Jeremiah Dua. She will attend next month for follow up. The operation cost £420 and was donated by pharmacist John McDougall from Newcastle. Many many thanks.
